Promotional short depicting the culture of road cycling in Prospect Park, Brooklyn. A diverse group are challenged by their passion as individuals, sponsored riders, or bike club members.
On any given day, people are clad in tights. unitards and jerseys, as colorful and stylish as any high fashion. These cult like figures sweat, train, race and compete during laps in the 3.3 mile course that includes the staits and hills of Prospect Park.
Bikes, equipment and clothing have become a multi-billion dollar enterprise for people seeking plain old exercise or pro level racing. While there there is a low bar to entry, many bikes are a “tour de force” of high tech design, physics and engineering. Road bikes can literally cost thousands of dollars for lightweight aluminum and carbon bikes with the latest gear sets.
Nonetheless, there is still room for a good old lazy ride on low cost or used bikes of all kinds in the park. All feel welcome. What are you waiting for?
